Severe Child Poverty in UK

A report produced by Save the Children January 2010 revealed that the number of children living in poverty in the UK had risen from 11% in 2004/05 to 13%. They estimate that  1.7 million children lived in severe poverty in 2009 against a backdrop of the economy entering a recession.

Transport for Sick Children was set up in 1977 to address the issue of getting deprived children’s health needs attended to. We have a group of volunteer drivers who are dedicated to helping children and their parents/carers. The volunteers use their own vehicles and give generously of their time to ensure children get to hospital, clinics etc.

Transport for Sick Children is unique in the UK offering transport free for the users and funded mainly by the 10 NHS Primary Care Trusts in Greater Manchester
